Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
If someone stops breathing or their heart stops, CPR can help save their life until emergency help arrives. Here’s how to perform CPR:
- Call for help immediately (Dial emergency number).
- Place your hands on the center of the chest, one on top of the other.
- Push hard and fast, at least 2 inches deep, at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute.
- If trained, give rescue breaths after every 30 chest compressions.
Burns
For minor burns, follow these steps:
- Cool the burn under cold running water for at least 10 minutes.
- Cover the burn with a sterile dressing or non-stick bandage.
- Avoid applying ice or ointments.
- For severe burns, seek immediate medical attention.
Bleeding
To stop bleeding, do the following:
- Apply gentle pressure to the wound with a clean cloth or bandage.
- If possible, elevate the injured area to reduce blood flow.
- If the bleeding is severe and does not stop, seek medical help immediately.
Choking
If someone is choking and can't breathe, follow these steps:
- Encourage the person to cough if they are able to.
- If they can't cough, give five back blows between the shoulder blades.
- If they still can't breathe, perform the Heimlich maneuver by giving abdominal thrusts.
- Call emergency services if the person remains unconscious or unresponsive.
Fractures
In case of a bone fracture, here’s what you should do:
- Do not try to move the person if they are in severe pain.
- Immobilize the affected area using splints or anything sturdy (e.g., a stick).
- Apply ice packs to reduce swelling (but do not apply directly to the skin).
- Call emergency services or take the person to the hospital immediately.
